چکیده

Folding of the triangular lattice in a discrete three-dimensional space is investigated numerically. Such "discrete folding" has come about through theoretical investigation, since Bowick and co-workers introduced it as a simplified model for the crumpling of the phantom polymerized membranes. So far, it has been analyzed with the hexagon approximation of the cluster variation method (CVM). However, the possible systematic error of the approximation was not fully estimated; in fact, it has been known that the transfer-matrix calculation is limited in the tractable strip widths L</=6. Aiming to surmount this limitation, we utilized the density-matrix renormalization group. Thereby, we succeeded in treating strip widths up to L=29 which admit reliable extrapolations to the thermodynamic limit. Our data indicate an onset of a discontinuous crumpling transition with the latent heat substantially larger than the CVM estimate. It is even larger than the latent heat of the planar (two-dimensional) folding, as first noticed by the preceding CVM study. That is, contrary to our naive expectation, the discontinuous character of the transition is even promoted by the enlargement of the embedding-space dimensions. We also calculated the folding entropy, which appears to lie within the best analytical bound obtained previously via combinatorics arguments.

Time-Dependent Real-Space Renormalization Group Method

In this paper, using the tight-binding model, we extend the real-space renormalization group method to time-dependent Hamiltonians. We drive the time-dependent recursion relations for the renormalized tight-binding Hamiltonian by decimating selective sites of lattice iteratively. The formalism is then used for the calculation of the local density of electronic states for a one dimensional quant...

Geometrical Folding Transitions of the Triangular Lattice in the Face - Centred Cubic Lattice

We study the folding of the regular two-dimensional triangular lattice embedded in the regular three-dimensional Face-Centred Cubic lattice, a discrete model for the crumpling of membranes. Possible folds are complete planar folds, folds with the angle of a regular tetrahedron (71 •) or with that of a regular octahedron (109 •). We study this model in the presence of a negative bending rigidity...

Spin Bose - metal phase in a spin - 12 model with ring exchange on a two - leg triangular strip

Recent experiments on triangular lattice organic Mott insulators have found evidence for a two-dimensional 2D spin liquid in close proximity to the metal-insulator transition. A Gutzwiller wave function study of the triangular lattice Heisenberg model with a four-spin ring exchange term appropriate in this regime has found that the projected spinon Fermi sea state has a low variational energy. ...

Hubbard model with bond-charge interaction on a triangular lattice: a renormalization group study

We have studied the Hubbard model with bond-charge interaction on a triangular lattice for a half-filled band. At the point of particle-hole symmetry the model could be analyzed in detail in two opposite regimes of the parameter space. Using a real space renormalization group we calculate the ground state energy and the local moment over the whole parameter space. The RG results obey the exact ...

Density matrix renormalization group approach to a two-dimensional bosonic model

Density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) is applied to a (1+1)-dimensional λφ model to study spontaneous breakdown of discrete Z2 symmetry numerically. We obtain the critical coupling (λ/μ 2)c = 59.89 ± 0.01 and the critical exponent β = 0.1264 ± 0.0073, which are consistent with the Monte Carlo and the exact results, respectively. The results are based on extrapolation to the continuum limi...
